Course Details

This course is designed to help all staff improve their understanding of the appropriate procedures for assisting and moving people they're caring for, and how to apply this information each day in their work.

Users will also learn about their own responsibilities, as well as their organisation's responsibilities, when it comes to assisting and moving people. Staff will also learn how to provide residents with the highest quality of care by using appropriate, safe, and dignified moving and handling strategies. More specifically, this course will teach learners how to carry out chair moves and transfers, how to carry out bed/trolley moves and transfers, and how to manage a person who is falling or has fallen.

The course will take around 30 minutes to complete and contains a case study and multiple-choice questions.

Objectives

After completing this course, learners will be able to:

  • Explain the individual and organisational responsibilities relating to assisting and moving people.
  • Describe how to provide residents with the best quality care using appropriate, safe, and dignified moving and handling strategies.
  • Identify normal human movement patterns as a prerequisite to moving and handling people.​
  • Identify how a person's mobility may affect moving and handling. ​
  • Explain how to carry out chair moves and transfers. ​
  • Describe how to carry out bed/trolley moves and transfers. ​
  • Describe how to manage a person who is falling or has fallen. ​
  • Know how to use equipment to move people safely.​
  • Explain how multidisciplinary team communication and risk assessments ensure the safe handling of patients.​
